Before applying for a Monkey Tail Ranch service dog, we want to make sure you have a clear understanding of the time and commitment involved. By submitting an application, you’re acknowledging that you’re ready to take on that responsibility.
Welcoming a service dog into your home is a big and exciting step, and it does require ongoing involvement. At placement, you’ll participate in a four-day handler training, followed by daily practice for the first few months. This early period is especially important for building communication, consistency, and a strong working relationship. We recommend keeping your schedule relatively calm during this time to help set both you and your dog up for success.
While your dog will arrive with a strong training foundation, that training is something you’ll continue to build on together. Dogs don’t instantly bond, relationships develop over time through structure, consistency, and positive interaction. A confident handler and a supportive home environment are key to helping your service dog thrive.
Our team is here to guide you through the process, and we ask that all applicants be open to following training recommendations and program guidelines to ensure the best possible outcome for both you and your dog.
